How to activate a new TRON wallet

A new TRON wallet gets an address right away, but on the blockchain it stays an inactive address. Until it's activated, it can receive USDT but can't send anything.

How does activation happen?

The moment TRX arrives at the address, it's activated automatically. There's no button to press. The activation fee (about 1.1 TRX) is paid by the sender, not the receiver.

Easiest ways

1. Withdraw TRX from an exchange: buy a little TRX and withdraw it to the new address. The exchange covers the activation fee.
2. Send from another wallet: send 1–5 TRX from a wallet that already has TRX. The sending side pays about 1.1 TRX extra.

Already received USDT?

Receiving USDT doesn't activate a wallet. Even if you can see a USDT balance, you can't send it without TRX. Get TRX in first using one of the ways above.

How to check

Paste the address into “My wallet” on the Tools page. If it isn't activated yet, it will say so.

After activation

Once active, you can rent energy and send USDT cheaply. Getting 3–6 TRX at the start covers the rental plus a buffer. (How to rent energy)
